Re: English Harbour Aged 5 Years - Antigua

I bought this rum since I heard so much good about it on www.liquorature.com. They said it's a high end mixer. I will try it neat today so I expect i might be in for a rough ride!

Smell: Fruity but the alcohol is noticeable.

Taste: Sweet, hints of fruit, maybe a bit of caramel. It is good even if the alcohol taste is a bit too sharp.

My first impression was "this is not bad at all!" but you can sense the alcohol in the finish. Pity that it got that sting in the end since it starts out so good. I am really curious about their 10 year old.

I rate it at 3/5 where 5 is best as a sipper. If it had been a bit smoother i would have increased that... I wonder how it is as a mixer, I will try that another day.

Stefan, did you ever manage to try the ten or 21 year old to compare?

Not yet. I almost got the 10 but when I had the money the store had run out of bottles. The 10 is still on my "need-to-get"-list but the 25 is a bit out of my budget... I want the St Nicholas Abbeys too but they are hard to find at a reasonable price.

I will be in Berlin for a couple of weeks.  Do you have any contacts there I can leave a bottle or two with, so you could pick them up or have them sent to you at your convenience?

I would love that! I don't have any contacts in Berlin personally but will ask a round among my friends. I mostly know people in Bremerhaven in northern Germany since I go there quite regularly when I work. Are you going for work or vacation?

Re: English Harbour Aged 5 Years - Antigua

I'll be on vacation.  If you can get a contact together I can probably provide a good sized heel of the EH 1981 25 yr old, and maybe a sample bottle of St Nicholas Abbey 10 & 12 yr old rums...I'm not sure how good the postal service is regarding alcohol and would prefer not to find out.  Keep me posted, and email me at liquorature@gmail.com
