Admiral Rodney - St. Lucia

Admiral Rodney - St. Lucia

Admiral Rodney
Admiral Rodney is one of the world’s finest rums. Made from 100% continuous still rums, Admiral Rodney is St. Lucia Distillers flagship in terms of age and complexity. The rum commemorates the English Admiral Rodney who famously “broke the line” and vanquished the French fleet at the Battle of the Saints in 1782.

As further stocks of aged rum come on line we are adding older rums into the blend. Currently the Admiral George Rodney blend averages 12 years and we are intending to get to an average of 15 years in the coming years. During 2009 Admiral Rodney won Gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London and Gold at the World Spirits Competition in Germany and the Rum Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge.

    Brand Positioning: Super Premium
    Blend: 100% Continuous Still
Maturation: In American oak casks - Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Buffalo Trace - separately by batch, then blended and bottled.
Age: A blend averaging 12 years.
    Alcoholic Strength: 40% abv
Sizes: 6x700ml; 6x750ml (all sizes with blue presentation box)

Tasting Note: Bright amber, mahogany colour. Incredibly attractive nose packed with complexity. Rich honeyed fruit with prunes, sweet raisins and well integrated oak toast. On the palate concentrated, complex with velvety caramel crème brulee and hints of vanilla, spice and chocolate from long ageing. Well balanced and harmonious with an exceptionally long finish.

About St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies.
Committed to innovation and quality, St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies is a small rum distillery situated in the scenically beautiful and agriculturally rich valley of Roseau on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. A passionate team of distillers, blenders, engineers, technicians and administrative staff work together to produce some of the world’s best rums and rum products. St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies products have been recognised at the world’s most exacting competitions, winning numerous accolades and awards. The Company prides itself on its commitment to product development and has an offering of over 25 rums and rum products from premium rums and liqueurs to traditional pouring rums. St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies is HACCP compliant.

History
St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies emerged from a tradition of the on-site, house-special rum production that was a common feature of the West Indian sugar plantation. Sugar’s by-product, molasses was fermented and distilled to rum, the demand for which has been a constant through the fluctuations of West Indian plantation economies. By the late 1950s, two distilleries remained, one at Dennery, the site of the Barnard family plantation, and the other Geest-owned at Roseau, the location of the now St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies.

St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies was formed in 1972 when the two distilleries amalgamated producing a now-discontinued blend of rum whose name reflected the merger, Denros Bounty Rum. The Barnard family bought out the Geest shares in 1992 and in 1997 sold shares to Trinidad-based Angostura Ltd., giving the company a wider regional presence and the capital to pursue the product development philosophy which has since characterised St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies. In 2005 the Barnard family, planters and rum distillers for over a century sold to CLICO, with third generation rum-maker Laurie Barnard staying on as Managing Director.

St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies, in the thirty seven years since its inception, has grown from producing a single-label mass-market rum to a portfolio of premium rums and liqueurs.

Today, St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies boasts a range of over 25 rum and rum-related products which have performed exceptionally and won honours at international competitions.

Our Strategy
Making an excellent rum product is central to St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies company ethos. It is the springboard from which all other aspects of the company’s operations are launched.

This small but distinct distillery prides itself on the development of quality-driven products with a broad product line. The team at St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies is not afraid to take risks, and is always innovative. St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies moves forward with this philosophy with an emphasis on production and energy efficiency, understanding the market, and addressing competition.

St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies maintains its commitment to efficiency of production and environmental responsibility; to that end, the organisation has undertaken these projects:
-a bottle recycling programme
-boiler operation primarily on recovered waste oil
-effluent discharge is carefully managed, to minimise its impact on the environment and meets EU standards on distillery effluent
-a project is underway to introduce a system for the boilers to operate a cogeneration unit which uses steam turbines that harness boiler steam to create power to run the plant.

TØZ Gold
TØZ Gold is a blend of aged, premium Saint Lucian rums from the Caribbean's premier small distillery. Distilled in copper alembic pot and continuous stills, the rum is aged in American whit oak barrels before a final polish in vintage port casks. Re: Admiral Rodney - St. Lucia

Smell: faint hint of raisins

Taste: Full taste, smooth but not a lot of sweetness. I have problems identifying something in the taste, it reminds me of marzipan/almonds.

I rate this at 4/5, it's definitely a very good rum.

Re: Admiral Rodney - St. Lucia

I agree, it's a very good rum.  I also believe that the St Lucia Distillers "1931" may be better, and the Renegade 1999 St Lucia the slightest bit superior to both.

Re: Admiral Rodney - St. Lucia

I will keep an eye open for these. "1931" I have been tempted to buy a few times but I have been a bit hesitant about the Renegades.
